Anyone planning to go Veggie one day a week?

Once a week, is not too much at all

Each year, millions of animals are slaughtered on factory farms for human consumption. Factory farming is a leading cause of global warming because it increases the levels of gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. Because meat is produced on factory farms, those that consume meat on a daily basis, or have a diet that depends heavily on meat and poultry contribute greatly to the amounts of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Adopting a vegetarian or vegan diet, or even just opting to go vegetarian once a week, which can be as easy as choosing a salad for lunch, can decrease the levels of greenhouse gases, in the atmosphere.

I only eat organic meat and animal products.  Meat is on the menu at most 2 times a week.  Buying from local, small scale farmers also helps.

Amongst the animals we are with the carrion eaters, in other words amongst vultures and hyenas. I only hope it doesn't rub off spiritually.

I don't eat meat of animals which are killed by somebody else. The reason modern slaughter-houses are just plain cruel. In the Port of Fremantle. I witness  the transportation of cattle also very cruel. I respectfully disagree with Jendhamuni that it is ideal to be a total vegetarian. I get my protein from fish and other sea-food, eggs (free range only) cheese. The decision of the consumption of meat is best left with the individual. Also I see frequently photographs of kittens and puppies, these animals are not vegetarian. The reason I point this out that in Australia professional shooters kill kangaroos for the pet food market which is also transported to Europe. Please consider this when you buy a dog or a cat. Absolutely clean kills don't happen very often.  I have handled fire-arms for close to 25 years before they were traded in for my camera equipment. The amount of clean kills I can count on the fingers of my hand.

In order to balance the food consumption by world, it's not possible everybody can eat the veg….just think if for just one year if we do not eat the fish at all around the world, what will happen.. Our existence on the earth will disappear.

the average westerner dumps 18 KTONS of carbon dioxide + methane + nitrous oxide into the atmosphere and needs 70 acres of land for it's food production , the earth could support about 2 billion of those , i've calculated my carbon footprint since going 100% veggy 4 months ago , i am now at 1.6Kt of co2 no methane or Nitrous oxide and require 1.3 acres to live

+Jignesh Patel and what do you thing beef , pork and chicken eat ? it's to feed those that the acrerage requirement to support a omnivorous diet is so much more larger then a strict vegetarian diet , 70 avres for meat eaters vs ~< 2 acres for vegetarians

Live & Die for Buddhism

Me & Grandma

My Reflection

This site is a tribute to Buddhism. Buddhism has given me a tremendous inspiration to be who and where I am today. Although I came to America at a very young age, however, I never once forget who I am and where I came from. One thing I know for sure is I was born as a Buddhist, live as a Buddhist and will leave this earth as a Buddhist. I do not believe in superstition. I only believe in karma.

Tipitaka: The pali canon (Readings in Theravada Buddhism). A vast body of literature in English translation the texts add up to several thousand printed pages. Most -- but not all -- of the Canon has already been published in English over the years. Although only a small fraction of these texts are available here at Access to Insight, this collection can nonetheless be a very good place to start.
