Avoid using cushion when practicing insight meditation

It's very important not to sit on a thick cushion or pillow when practicing insight meditation. You will never reach a deeper level of wisdom if you do so. It's better to sit flat like Lord Buddha here. ~Jendhamuni

    +Jendhamuni Sos    Lush grass is not always an option for everyone as it was for the Buddha. I am not certain that he would have been able to sit for so long were he only able to sit on a hard floor during meditations. How are we to get insight without some type of comfort to enable it as The Buddha himself did. I am not sure I could sit for long periods on a hard floor without needing to reposition.  Someone did say that water was often used for meditation work , have you heard of this Jendhamuni as I have yet to read anything anywhere of water…I question the water theory, it works in birthing as they say but in meditation??…really!

    +Tina Gray Sitting flat on hard floor is the best. That's what I do everyday. It's hard, hurt your body at first. Takes lots of practice and patience. Practice sitting on hard floor about 5 minutes to start with, then keep increasing the minutes, once your body can handle it. The wind from inside of our body is very strong, it will knock you down if you sit on cushion, (only if you practice properly), you will feel this. I use water too sometimes. i.e. holding a cup of water. Be mindful –make sure the water is steady…

    My blood circulation is so poor that sitting like that on a hard floor means blood immediately stops flowing to my legs, and I get the very painful "pins and needles" sensation.  I have a high threshold for many forms of pain, but that is unfortunately NOT one of them! 
    I can sit for longer using a cushion or even a thick book under me (5+ minutes instead of  just two!), and I feel I should give that higher priority than being able to meditate without it…
    Overall, I'm just not as healthy or as strong as I want to be yet for meditation, or even just sitting with the laptop or a book (for reading, not sitting on!) for long periods of time.
