1. We have the seed of everything in us

    Comment

Even though life is hard, even though it is sometimes difficult to smile, we have to try. Just as when we wish each other, “Good morning,” it must be a real “Good morning.” Recently, one friend asked me, “How can I force myself to smile when I am filled with sorrow? It isn’t natural.” I told her she must be able to smile to her sorrow, because we are more than our sorrow. A human being is like a television set with millions of channels. If we turn the Buddha on, we are the Buddha. If we turn a smile on, we really are the smile. We cannot let just one channel dominate us. We have the seed of everything in us, and we have to seize the situation in our hand, to recover our own sovereignty. When we sit down peacefully, breathing and smiling, with awareness, we are our true selves, we have sovereignty over ourselves. ~Thich Nhat Hanh

  2. We can smile and blossom like a flower

    Comment

If we are not happy, if we are not peaceful, we cannot share peace and happiness with others, even those we love, those who live under the same roof. If we are happy, if we are peaceful, we can smile and blossom like a flower, and everyone in our family, our entire society, will benefit from our peace. Do we need to make a special effort to enjoy the beauty of the blue sky? Do we have to practice to be able to enjoy it? No, we just enjoy it. Each second, each minute of our lives can be like this. Wherever we are, any time, we have the capacity to enjoy the sunshine, the presence of each other, even the sensation of our breathing. We don’t need to go to China to enjoy the blue sky. We don’t have to travel into the future to enjoy our breathing. We can be in touch with these things right now. It would be a pity if we are only aware of suffering. ~ Thich Nhat Hanh

  3. A simple smile is all it takes…

    Smile for everyone you meet…
A simple smile is all it takes to make one happy.
Love can come in many different ways, shapes and sizes.
But a simple smile will conquer everything.
And leave the best of us speechless.

  5. A beautiful day, whenever you smile…

Smile is the electricity and Life is a battery. Whenever you smile the battery gets charged and a beautiful day is activated. Everyone wants happiness, no one needs pain, but it’s not possible to get a rainbow, without a little rain. So, keep smiling!

  6. Embrace all living creatures

    Comment

A human being is part of the whole called by us
‘universe’ – a part limited in time and space.
Our task must be to free ourselves from
this prison by widening our circle of compassion
to embrace all living creatures and the whole
of nature in its beauty. ~Albert Einstein

What happens when you keep brewing coffee beyond a certain duration?
It gets bitter, way too bitter to be consumed, it cannot be sweetened by any
honey any more. Similarly, when a person holds onto their negative emotions,
such negativity keeps on brewing, it makes the person bitterer. The longer
they hold onto, the greater the bitterness.

Brewing anger can easily lead to a fit of rage because an outburst is more
a symptom, an outcome, than a cause, it is a sign that you have been holding
onto negative emotions within you. It is like heating up a steamed dumpling
    in a microwave oven.

The dumpling is able to take heat to a certain degree, beyond which it simply
explodes, splattering all over, it is no longer edible, much less presentable.
The brewer is a real killer, it is the slow poison. Unlike the volcano,
this one is kept in heart. Many harbor anger and other negative emotions,
they are unable to let go.

Me & Grandma

My Reflection

This site is a tribute to Buddhism. Buddhism has given me a tremendous inspiration to be who and where I am today. Although I came to America at a very young age, however, I never once forget who I am and where I came from. One thing I know for sure is I was born as a Buddhist, live as a Buddhist and will leave this earth as a Buddhist. I do not believe in superstition. I only believe in karma.

Tipitaka: The pali canon (Readings in Theravada Buddhism). A vast body of literature in English translation the texts add up to several thousand printed pages. Most -- but not all -- of the Canon has already been published in English over the years. Although only a small fraction of these texts are available here at Access to Insight, this collection can nonetheless be a very good place to start.
