The most powerful and heartbreaking images of the little monk

Little monk from my homeland, Cambodia, brings food to his father who is in jail. This is an example of an unconditional love. We should love our parents, unconditionally. We would not be here, without them. Even if they are hated or rejected by everyone in the society, still, as the son or daughter, we should never reject our parents. We must reach out to them, extend our love and compassion, just like the ocean, that does not reject anyone… ~Jendhamuni

Yes! But does the father understand, what he is doing to the child ! Any dog can have puppies.! Abuse is a abuse ! The child should direct his love and energy, to somebody possibly more deserving! The child looks at peace with all this ?!!! No i don't think so !

  4. Timothy Mckiness

    July 27, 2014

What most people don't understand, it is it probably took all day for that boy to get the food to give to his father so the boy will most likely go hungry that makes this even more heart wrenching

  5. Timothy Mckiness

    July 27, 2014

+justin dawson I find your your comment extremely abusive by calling the father a dog and abusive I seen neither of these two in this post maybe you should read it again instead of giving personal feelings and understand what's really going on . And how did you come to the assumptions since the child is crying in the photos that he looks peaceful your state that makes no sense what so ever

+justin dawson The government in my country is a corrupted government. Locking people up without reason. Stealing people's land then put them in jail. One may go to jail for something they did not commit…

+Octomus Prime the cambodia people are no longer tolerating any of this and that's the reason why they're being arrested or even killed. But in the last few days they are now starting negotiations and things are starting to calm down just a little bit . From what I understand my Cambodian is not as good as it used to be lol. please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong

Sarcasm dickhead ! And this is a snap shot ! I didn't call the man a dog ! Your the one making assumptions against me ! Hmm! And she doesn't know exactly! Why this man is in prison! And what for ! All i see is a child in pain ! And some girl posting Buddhist bs how his ok with all of it ! None of them are the child words ! So all get off your moral high horses! G+ horse shit! Wow !

I lived in Thailand in the 70's. My family saw monks walk along the neighborhood streets with long poles across their shoulders with buckets at each end. They would stop at houses that followed Buddhism, that left rice, vegetables, and fruit at the gates or doorways of their homes. The monks would then take the food to the orphanages and hospitals in bangkok, and take what was left to their monestary. I am a Christian, but I believe that most of the tenets of Buddhism follow closely to those of Christianity. This part of southeast Asia has had wars and warlike conflicts since time immemorial. Peace to them. There is enough tragedy, in this world without passing judgment on a small boy bringing his father food. It does not matter the crime of the father. His love and sacrifice for him speaks volumes.

+justin dawson well let's start from the beginning that you have made this personal I was brought up Roman Catholic and now practice Buddhism I see no BS. And I also lived it in Cambodia for many years all the way in to my late thirties my suggestion to you sir is educate yourself first before inserting foot in your mouth I see that you like to cuss a lot I would appreciate that it stops. And if you don't like Google Plus go back to Facebook or wherever you came from. Find a different community to be on

Yes you correct..I'm not hating anybody I try to enough him it's all yeah children must not go true such trauma..but let me tell you children from today are more matured they are stronger then ever..I remember in the old days at that time there wasn't things like this happening.. because technology it play a big roll in society..the family were very closer in the good old days

  19. Gal Crain

    July 27, 2014

+Jendhamuni Sos I hope this is correct; Amitabha. Peace to all who suffer. Christian, Hindi, Buddhist, true Muslim, even those who have no faith.. Children that are in constant struggle because of government unrest and wars do not make the world decisions that effect their lives. Pray for them.

My point is this post is putting words into the mouth of a child ! A snap shot of a childs life ! The girl posting this has no facts to back it up ! A romantic view at best ! Now if Timothy, wants to get into it with me ! Thats his problem and his alone ! He mailed me ! Like your mailing me now.! I just commented! Its a free planet.! You can't have it all your own way on the net ! If she doesn't like it or doesn't want her ass kissed ! She can turn the comments section OFF! Or you can all go to Cambodia and stop the lip service!

+Ahsan Hasib Show him by example what it is to be a good human being. You may not change his selfishness , but you may make him aware that it is the right thing to do. We can recite verses and speeches of how humans should behave, but the best method of instruction is by example.

I agree with timothy mckiness , here is a human being pure of heart with out judgment it shows how true love is ……never judge someone u don't know allways focus and look into the positive things in life …..doubt is a fear created to hold u back from something not real but that could be there and true love is always good and very few can see it…. peace out thx for your comment

That's true In every tradition and every religion! Here is what is said in my religion:
And your Creator and Nurturer has Commanded that you worship none but Him; and that you be kind and at The service of your parents; if one of Them or both reach their old age while Staying with you do not utter a word of Disrespect, nor annoy them and Address them in terms of honour and Kindness.
And be humble to them out of Compassion; and pray: "O, My Creator and Nurturer! Bestow Mercy upon Them, as they bore the toil of my Bringing up when I was a child."

My sister in law in Thailand is now 39 years. Her father denies her to have boyfriend, he gets angry if she spend 100 thb (~3$) for shoes… She have to go work every f*ckin day on land even on every public holiday including new year! He know that WHOLE family depends on her to have for food, he still denies her basic things in life…
Other sister in law HAD sister (she died because of AIDS before 16 yr).
Her mother sold her to almost every man to be raped in the village so she can buy alcohol.
Other daughter didn't have even birth certificate.

There are other stories from other people I'm 100% sure that are more disgusting.

Now tell me, children must LOVE parents unconditionally and be slaves to them and even DIE for them?
    Think before you post.

+Jendhamuni Sos I am very struck by the demeanour or posture of mind that is yours Jen having perused comments you have made. It all amounts to a profile of good spirit- no flannel truly- and no private agenda for I am 77 tomorrow, a practicing painter, and I publish writings on metaphysics, and without any sort of reference to theology, can therefore recognise good spirit when I encounter it- from a philosophic basis.  A pleasure indeed to encounter you.

My Reflection

This site is a tribute to Buddhism. Buddhism has given me a tremendous inspiration to be who and where I am today. Although I came to America at a very young age, however, I never once forget who I am and where I came from. One thing I know for sure is I was born as a Buddhist, live as a Buddhist and will leave this earth as a Buddhist. I do not believe in superstition. I only believe in karma.

Most -- but not all -- of the Canon has already been published in English over the years. Although only a small fraction of these texts are available here at Access to Insight, this collection can nonetheless be a very good place to start.
