A Mountain of Hatred

Promise me,
promise me this day,
promise me now,
while the sun is overhead
exactly at the zenith,
promise me:

Even as they
strike you down
with a mountain of hatred and violence;
even as they step on you and crush you
like a worm,
even as they dismember and disembowel you,
remember, brother,
remember:
man is not our enemy.

The only thing worthy of you is compassion –
invincible, limitless, unconditional.
Hatred will never let you face
the beast in man.

One day, when you face this beast alone,
with your courage intact, your eyes kind,
untroubled
(even as no one sees them),
out of your smile
will bloom a flower.
And those who love you
will behold you
across ten thousand worlds of birth and dying.

Alone again,
I will go on with bent head,
knowing that love has become eternal.
On the long, rough road,
the sun and the moon
will continue to shine.

The road to hell is paved by good intentions. Start with tolerance and respect, friendship it takes 2 to tango.

Beautiful poem, I do hope mor accept this as a way 2 live, things would b alot nicer, peopl r reluctant 2 giv up h8, as alot think its a strength, & fear bein vulnerable, I suppose it's not hard 2 do wen u c wot values r celebr8d in our society, 'might is right', but it's not & it's a product of fear, the mor fear in a person the mor reluctant 2 let go of h8, violence prob illustr8s the point mor clearly, capacity 4 violence is proportional 2 the amount of fear in a person, if u practise violence it's bcause u fear bein attacked, the mor violent u r the mor fear is ur motiv8or, this has bn my observation, take care JS 🙂

Jundhamumi thank you for sharing a most powerful series of words of wisdom. My core is touched deeply, in addition to confirmation of the necessity to love. Sometimes you have to dig deep into your core, but in the end you are enriched for doing what is required by a higher power. Thank you for sharing, my friend! Beautiful.

Live & Die for Buddhism

Me & Grandma

My Reflection

This site is a tribute to Buddhism. Buddhism has given me a tremendous inspiration to be who and where I am today. Although I came to America at a very young age, however, I never once forget who I am and where I came from. One thing I know for sure is I was born as a Buddhist, live as a Buddhist and will leave this earth as a Buddhist. I do not believe in superstition. I only believe in karma.

Tipitaka: The pali canon (Readings in Theravada Buddhism). A vast body of literature in English translation the texts add up to several thousand printed pages. Most -- but not all -- of the Canon has already been published in English over the years. Although only a small fraction of these texts are available here at Access to Insight, this collection can nonetheless be a very good place to start.
