All hold up love as an ideal

I maintain that Buddhism, Christianity, Confucianism, Hinduism, Islam, Jainism, Judaism, Sikhism, Taoism, and Zoroastrianism all hold up love as an ideal, seek to benefit humanity through spiritual practice, and strive to make their followers better people. All religions teach moral precepts for the advancement of mind, body, speech, and action: do not lie or steal or take others’ lives, and so on. Unselfishness is the common foundation laid down by all great spiritual teachers. Dalai Lama

The teachings of these religions/philosophies in many ways are different, and in some ways are opposed to one another. Truth is important and there is ultimately only one truth, and so these various points of view cannot be equally correct. Some of them must be closer to the truth than others are, and it is possible or even probable that the teachings of one of them is closest to the truth than the others are. Some religions teach that there is no free will among humans and all that we do is preordained, while others teach that individuals have been given the free will to choose between doing good or evil. Some of these religions teach that there is a creator who exists beyond the space and time of our universe and that our souls will continue to live on for eternity even after this physical universe ceases to exist, while others do not recognize the existence of an immortal soul or a supreme being who will judge us in the end. These are just some of the differences, and they have profound implications affecting how we act toward each other during our lives.

Of those religions that the Dalai Lama mentions above, there is at least one that I know of which only applies the concepts of "do not lie or steal or take others’ lives" to other members of that religion, and considers it perfectly acceptable and even a duty to lie, steal, and murder those who not members of that religion, in order to force others to join it.

All righteousness is attributed to God and all evil is attributed to Satan, to be all righteous is the ideal of Islam and other good attributes as love etc are it's outcome.Islam says that every human being is associated with God and has one Satan alongside to drive him away from righteousness towards the evil, now the choice is yours to where does you go,the former leads you to jannat and the later to hell or jahnum.

Actually love is a very small part of the overall philosophy of anything stemming from that Adam creation ideology, very different than Buddhism. Buddhism doesn't give the example of death and destruction to its followers to mimic as coming from god.. That is very critical because people will mimic the things they worship.. So you're not absolutely true on this its sentimentally true but not factual..imo

    +Jendhamuni Sos,
John 14:6 ( NIV ) reads as follows:  " Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me. '"
Matthew 1:16 ( NIV ) reads as follows:  " and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ. "
I would just like to kindly mention that there is one true religion, which is Christianity.  Jesus' statement in John 14:6 rules out Buddha, Confucius, Mohammed, and everyone else.  Let me know if you would be interested in continuing this discussion of the Holy Bible.  Keep in touch.

    Sincerely in Christ,
    Russell E. Willis

+Jendhamuni Sos exactly what +Russell Willis said is exactly what the problem is hahaha.. I love it when they do that how can someone live in peace with people who wil not live in peace with anyone else.. that is the tremendous difference between the Adam creation warrior mentality and Buddhism or common sense… you've got to justify dominance over other people using god…smh

+Russell Willis Jesus never taught or mentioned anything called "Christianity. It is drawn from other writings and made in Rome at the Council of Nice a.325 ad.under Constantine. Jesus never taught an "apostle' s creed:" it is man made…..not divine.

Well that's the thing if we study history we wouldn't have these religious superstitions going about. Or even if you use the religion as an instrument for self salvation on how to become a better human being… That's the deceiving part they put love in the books, but its only a very small part….the majority of religious practice/ history/ doctrine is about conquest & domination. And it's sad to see Buddhist trying to bring these elements together. I understand the the political necessity not to ostracize yourself as the leader of the Buddhist movement, but at the same time if anyone can call the practice of Christianity and Islam love they do not have very clear vision. Of course you have individual isolated anomaly. I live in the West we actually have a higher percentage of people who have to go get counseling in order to be human, in order to feel, in order to love, it's ridiculous. That's where the Greeks did a very very devastating thing to humanity: they did not finish the schools that they learn things from Egypt only staying no more than 15 years on a 40 year educational deal. Then they change all of the gods to warrior gods. Once you made the god who brought peace and civilization 2 the world into some type warrior killer your mentality and the direction of humanity was forever changed. this is the beautiful thing about Buddhism because even though it was male dominated it still remain somewhat balanced, not totally .. Same with India surprisingly because it was so close to the initial ground Zero.

You remind about agnostics! I can see that. Many religions have a lot of common points together from history until now. They have their points. I rely on God, Jesus & the holy spirit journey. Moral is a very big subject with theories and practices. Each religion have values and so on. I know a lot of people who are for example Muslims. Unfortunaltey they are isolated in their churches or places. Many are out on Internet and have their own rock star preachers 🙂 In Sweden a preacher and teacher have not that type of status. It´s the opposite. In some countries they have so much power and people can´t have own thoughts. I have no problems with people from different religions, but I know there are those who are afraid for it. I wish you a blessed day with whatever fills your life with meaning.

  31. Aquil A Rahman

    January 21, 2014

+Emma Hedlund most of us are born into religion by accident of birth. Until we understand choice and intellect…….things are pretty futile. The real message of a Jesus Buddha or Allah could be right next door but we are usually blinded from birth.

The dichotomy is that nobody or very few can grasp the cohesive flight of the bee. "Out of many ; comes ONE !

A guy opened a bar near a church which 90% church goers did not like n they alongwith d preast would pray 2 d Lord every Sunday 2 do something 2 get rid of it. It so happend that one day d bar got struck by lightening n was totally destroyed. The bar owner sued d preast n d church goers in d court taking d plea that d calamity occurred due 2 their prayers so they should compensate him 4 his losses. D judge heard the church who wehemently denied. My Reflection

This site is a tribute to Buddhism. Buddhism has given me a tremendous inspiration to be who and where I am today. Although I came to America at a very young age, however, I never once forget who I am and where I came from. One thing I know for sure is I was born as a Buddhist, live as a Buddhist and will leave this earth as a Buddhist. I do not believe in superstition. I only believe in karma.
