Anger destroys your inner peace

Buddhism teaches people that the real source of happiness is inner peace. If our mind is peaceful, we shall be happy all the time, regardless of external conditions, but if it is disturbed or troubled in any way, we shall never be happy, no matter how good our external conditions may be. External conditions can only make us happy if our mind is peaceful. We can understand this through our own experience. For instance, even if we are in the most beautiful surroundings and have everything we need, the moment we get angry any happiness we may have disappears. This is because anger has destroyed our inner peace.

“Mind precedes all things; mind is their chief, mind is their maker. If one speaks or does a deed with a mind that is pure within, happiness then follows along like a never departing shadow.” ~ Dhammapada

We can see from this that if we want true, lasting happiness we need to develop and maintain a special experience of inner peace. The only way we can do this is by training our mind through spiritual practice – gradually reducing and eliminating our negative, disturbed states of mind and replacing them with positive, peaceful states.

The emotion of anger represents attachment to a certain outcome and an unwillingness to let go of that expectation. Indeed, the sooner you let go of the expectation, then the anger will subside and you can again return to a peaceful state of mind. Great post. Thanks for sharing +Jendhamuni Sos 🙂

Thank you very much +Keith Charles You are amazing! I definately agree with you. I experience the letting go everyday, and feel more and more at peace, knowing I can control the situation…and not letting the situation controlling me.

Indignation is a valve of emotions, it follows the right to justice. Anger is an unpredictable outburst of emotions. This outbreak is the logic except power and prevents a solution by mutual agreement. With reflection on the inner strength is burgeoning anger manageable .

Anger is also a perfectly normal emotion, like submerging in water you need to come out of it pretty quickly before it kills you.

+Jendhamuni Sos thanks. I sometimes get rigid in my opinions. Need to develop more flexibility like bamboo.
I actually am changing for the better from your posts and my own. They act as reminders and keep me and I'm sure others on track.

My Reflection

This site is a tribute to Buddhism. Buddhism has given me a tremendous inspiration to be who and where I am today. Although I came to America at a very young age, however, I never once forget who I am and where I came from. One thing I know for sure is I was born as a Buddhist, live as a Buddhist and will leave this earth as a Buddhist. I do not believe in superstition. I only believe in karma.

Tipitaka: The pali canon (Readings in Theravada Buddhism). A vast body of literature in English translation the texts add up to several thousand printed pages. Most -- but not all -- of the Canon has already been published in English over the years. Although only a small fraction of these texts are available here at Access to Insight, this collection can nonetheless be a very good place to start.
