    Too bad people focus on the mythology instead of the message…

    What they said, whether they even existed or not, is too often lost to the devotion of worship.

    It's a damn shame, really.

    +brun a barbarian if people only cared more about the messages instead of mythology, they wouldn't feel with while in their lives not being part of a cult.

    At least Buddhism is a philosophy. It encourages people to do good, live productive lives, be happy with yourself and to respect others without any expectation of god worship or religious rituals.

    Yeah I guess the need to feel a part of something bigger leads one to an organization that gives one a mental security blanket of confidence in large numbers, i.e. the herd mentality.

    Oh but there are those who have twisted Buddhism into a theology instead of a philosophy. =[

    +brun a barbarian probably because so many are stuck on organized religion.

    What Buddha philosophized on how one can live a good happy life fits with the positives every religion preaches

    So people thought to themselves, "I agree with Buddhism, but it's just a philosophy. Everyone else practices religion. Religion must be the right way to go because there are SO MANY, so why not worship Buddha (even though he told people not to), that seems right."_

    ::facepalm::

    Because of they don't have one they'll just "mess up" their own lives… Wander without direction… End up lost ..

    I understand the fable. I don't accept the divinity (and am skeptical of even the existence) of Jesus. There are some really great things in the philosophy, but it is just a collection of old myths. Peter Rabbit is a good tale of being honest, but it doesn't mean Peter Rabbit is real.

My Reflection

This site is a tribute to Buddhism. Buddhism has given me a tremendous inspiration to be who and where I am today. Although I came to America at a very young age, however, I never once forget who I am and where I came from. One thing I know for sure is I was born as a Buddhist, live as a Buddhist and will leave this earth as a Buddhist. I do not believe in superstition. I only believe in karma.

Tipitaka: The pali canon (Readings in Theravada Buddhism). A vast body of literature in English translation the texts add up to several thousand printed pages. Most -- but not all -- of the Canon has already been published in English over the years. Although only a small fraction of these texts are available here at Access to Insight, this collection can nonetheless be a very good place to start.
