Don’t rejoice when those who hurt you are facing trouble

Compassion compels us to reach out to all living beings, including our so-called enemies, those people who upset or hurt us. Irrespective of what they do to you, if you remember that all beings like you are only trying to be happy, you will find it much easier to develop compassion towards them. Usually your sense of compassion is limited and biased. We extend such feelings only towards our family and friends or those who are helpful to us. People we perceive as enemies and others to whom we are indifferent are excluded from our concern. That is not genuine compassion. True compassion is universal in scope. It is accompanied by a feeling of responsibility. To act altruistically, concerned only for the welfare of others, with no selfish or ulterior motives, is to affirm a sense of universal responsibility. ~Dalai Lama

someone's ennemy is someone else savior , when i hear of horrors in this world , it always makes me think of a chapter called "the cries of the slaughter house" i think it was in the biography of master Shen Yen (or at least one of her books) , most of the time the "butchers" are not aware of the suffering they create , once made aware , they change their ways (or at least we try to help them )

So true but difficult to express and feel universally until the 'heart' of compassion can embrace all beings without bias and prejudgement that is limited and based on ignorance of incomplete understanding and limited consciousness. We tend to be conditioned by our likes and dislikes that drive our passion more than awaken our compassion for others who are likewise conditioned also. So we need to awaken from this dream life by opening to the 'universal' heart that beats silently in all created and be in tune with it's rhythm and flow.

Live & Die for Buddhism

My Reflection

This site is a tribute to Buddhism. Buddhism has given me a tremendous inspiration to be who and where I am today. Although I came to America at a very young age, however, I never once forget who I am and where I came from. One thing I know for sure is I was born as a Buddhist, live as a Buddhist and will leave this earth as a Buddhist. I do not believe in superstition. I only believe in karma.

Tipitaka: The pali canon (Readings in Theravada Buddhism). A vast body of literature in English translation the texts add up to several thousand printed pages. Most -- but not all -- of the Canon has already been published in English over the years. Although only a small fraction of these texts are available here at Access to Insight, this collection can nonetheless be a very good place to start.
