Each of us wants the best

Whether one is rich or poor, educated or illiterate, religious or nonbelieving, man or woman, black, white, or brown, we are all the same. Physically, emotionally, and mentally, we are all equal. We all share basic needs for food, shelter, safety, and love. We all aspire to happiness and we all shun suffering. Each of us has hopes, worries, fears, and dreams. Each of us wants the best for our family and loved ones. We all experience pain when we suffer loss and joy when we achieve what we seek. On this fundamental level, religion, ethnicity, culture, and language make no difference. ~Dalai Lama

True… So there's no reason to feel less than others. 'Stand up in honour'. But, never claim better than others either. It's funny to see so many people think they're in 'higher class', or even feel they're the rightest among all. O come on! We're all just the same human being. Ever pee on our pants when we're little kids, n maybe will do that again when we're close to death!…Have an awesome day, Jen 🙂

Yes we always worried about family. but we don't think ourselves in whole life why when I think very deeply then I get what's going on my life and what about my life. I think we should live sometime ourselves. I did and I got we can do better for our family and our precious life. maybe do you think so.it; s good for us

This tells me that the Dali's time like my own was populated with the broadcast of criminals against humanity. I suppose it keeps the lord of compassion in work, so long as suffering is accepted as part of the human condition…needless suffering may need a distinction.

Yes, we all eat, sleep, and dream, and that is obvious to anyone. But why are we here at all, what is our purpose? That is the big question.

+Chorum Ventus Its about peace, about acceptance, about tranquility. To ask "why", is to undo the purpose, to raise doubt, to differentiate. (The whole speech about being subjective vs objective!)

Does life have a purpose, and if so what might that purpose be?

Can our purpose in life be to just ignore the problems of the world, and to try to escape from them by accepting both good and evil equally, and then selfishly attempting to withdraw into a private world of tranquility and inner peace through meditation, as a Buddhist Monk who begs with his bowl from those who toil for a living, and then retreats back into the isolation of his refuge might do?

Or is the purpose of life better served by becoming actively engaged in trying to correct the problems of the world, by fighting for the good and against evil, and by performing acts of true love through the daily self-sacrifice of toiling for the benefit of others, such as the Christian Sisters who belong to the order of nuns that Mother Teresa founded might do?

This is one of the basic differences between the Buddhist and Christian philosophies, and there are also other important differences.

My Reflection

This site is a tribute to Buddhism. Buddhism has given me a tremendous inspiration to be who and where I am today. Although I came to America at a very young age, however, I never once forget who I am and where I came from. One thing I know for sure is I was born as a Buddhist, live as a Buddhist and will leave this earth as a Buddhist. I do not believe in superstition. I only believe in karma.

Tipitaka: The pali canon (Readings in Theravada Buddhism). A vast body of literature in English translation the texts add up to several thousand printed pages. Most -- but not all -- of the Canon has already been published in English over the years. Although only a small fraction of these texts are available here at Access to Insight, this collection can nonetheless be a very good place to start.

Problems we face today

Of the many problems we face today, some are natural calamities and must be accepted and faced with equanimity. Others, however, are of our own making, created by misunderstanding, and can be corrected...
