GM Will Pay $35 Million Fine Over Massive Safety Recall

The U.S. Transportation Department announced Friday it is fining General Motors (GM) $35 million for safety issues stemming from its delayed recalls of 2.6 million cars due to faulty ignition switches. This action represents the largest civil penalty ever paid as a result of a government investigation of violations stemming from its recalls. GM has signed a consent order, agreeing to pay the fines and submit to additional oversight, according to the Transportation Department. In a press conference to announce the settlement, U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Fox said GM had "failed to meet their public safety obligations." He also said the sanctions against the company serve as a warning to other automakers. Watch video and read full story

I know. I used to love Chevrolet so much, when I was 13. The first car my dad owned in 1985.

That money should be evenly disbursed to the owners of those vehicles which have now lost value due to bad business and a decreased value in the stigma involved. I have been Chevrolet all my life but there vehicles are in the toilet anymore and this is why, profit over quality and integrity.

Obama is desperate to try to find something, anything, to stop his slide in the polls. They tried the Ukraine thing and that didn't work out; then they tried the Nigeria thing and that didn't work; now they're back to the old "beat up on General Motors" ploy invented by Ralph Nader 50 years ago. They must really be desperate.

GM fined $35M, Toyota fined $1.2B. ย So the foreign car company (without the UAW employees contributing to Obama and thus favored by Obama) has to pay 34 TIMES as much for a comparable fault.

for the money people pay for cars these days they should drive themselves…be bulletproof run on solar power and last a good 100 years…what seems to be the problem??? instead we pay way too much for overpriced pieces of garbage death traps that are designed to self destruct every 4 or 5 years….an overwhelming amount of motor vehicles out there, foreign or domestic will not outlast the original payment book…the technology is out there and still we get garbage…

Live & Die for Buddhism

My Reflection

This site is a tribute to Buddhism. Buddhism has given me a tremendous inspiration to be who and where I am today. Although I came to America at a very young age, however, I never once forget who I am and where I came from. One thing I know for sure is I was born as a Buddhist, live as a Buddhist and will leave this earth as a Buddhist. I do not believe in superstition. I only believe in karma.

Tipitaka: The pali canon (Readings in Theravada Buddhism). A vast body of literature in English translation the texts add up to several thousand printed pages. Most -- but not all -- of the Canon has already been published in English over the years. Although only a small fraction of these texts are available here at Access to Insight, this collection can nonetheless be a very good place to start.
