I'm a vegetarian, so no. But I don't really get the outcry. If you would eat a pig, which is as intelligent as a dog, why not a horse?

Any animal that eats grass and hay, is healthy for you, I would try it.

What if it made you run faster, would you eat it then?

I don't understand why this is such and issue. If you are meat eater than what is the difference what species the meat is barring maybe cannibalism.

I know people who have cows and love them all the way to the dinner table.

I don't know but I don't think it should matter if other ppl do. We are just conditioned not to in the U.S.

I think the issue now with these restaurants is the TRUTH. IF they say its 100% Beef, then they should sell BEEF!  If a company is lying then that is where the question comes up as to what else are they willing to slip into food without disclosing it.

Stop crying Susie. You said you wanted a pony for your birthday . . . now eat up.

    March 6, 2013

Yes, I might stop doing so if it's not to my taste.
I assume that authorities have checked it and it is OK. (because it's on the menu)
The same goes for any meat approved by the health authorities.

yes. it's killed anyway. might as well use all there is of it, rather than let it go to waste.

I have eaten horsemeat, it is not bad. Kinda tough but good. Much tastier than dogmeat.

Never! I love to ride horses not eat them. They're beautiful animals too gentle to be eaten

+B Lee LOL – unless we are vegetarians, in light of this recent news, we probably all have at least once!

Nope because I choose not to eat any meat except fish

I would eat shit if you cook it right… but that's just me…
    A pig.. a cow… a horse…
    There lives all have value..
So if I could enjoy a pig or a cow then why not a horse????
    I favor no creature…
    Man or beast…

if i knew the horse was bred for meat and was steroid free and all other funky diseases, i would try it at least once.

  21. Josh McGhee

    March 6, 2013

no because horses are so adorable and fun to ride on

  22. Shannon McCoy

    March 6, 2013

Nope I think it's very sad that this is happening, I own 5 horses and treat them as there my kids. They are beautiful animals and look for us as comfort and safty and people out there do this to them it's a shame

  23. Dave Lindsey

    March 6, 2013

Lol, people will slaughter pigs, cows, fish, birds and other tasty treats but get all butt hurt and offended with a dog or a horse?  Stupid is just stupid.

  24. Suso Nauta

    March 6, 2013

Yes I will. Pigs, lambs, cattle, chicken  are cute too and I ate their meat why should I make an exception for horses.

  25. joe Varga

    March 6, 2013

Horses die just the same as a deer, cow, pig, buffalo, alligator, tuna etc. Yet people are getting upset about eating a horse? Better than going to a glue factory because at least if the horse gets eaten it provides sustenance.

The icing would be if I get to ride it round the block a couple of times, weeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

I love horsemeat. I actually prefer it to beef, if its cooked right. I don´t understand what the big fuss is about. Meat is meat, and why would you waste it. And it is actually served at my favorite restaurant, and i recommend it with a nice bottle of autralian Shiraz

  29. Jason Downing

    March 6, 2013

I'd think twice about it at first just because I've never come across it, but when it really comes down to it, it's just like any other animal. If you're going to eat cow, pig, chicken, fish.. there's no reason why eating a horse should be any different.

Looks like you're going to have to make new holiday plans +Björn Jóhannsson the lady has recinded any holiday invites sir ha ha ha ha ha ha ha .

So disgusted I am speechless. Makes me want to call PETA  right now!!!

  33. Dale Medina

    March 6, 2013

I'll eat it only if it ruins my $100 5-horse parlay

  34. Diane Cook

    March 6, 2013

Only if I was actually near death from starvation and there was nothing else to eat.

  35. Dale Medina

    March 6, 2013

I am really torn about this question because I love eating at my favorite restaurant. I'll probably need to ask the waiter  first about what his take is, then get a second opinion from the chef…

"Should I eat this with Red Tabasco or the Green Tabasco?"

+Tallin Tracey Well, we ride them here also. But we eat them also. We don´t really eat dog here, but if somebody would offer it to me i would try it. If i would like it I would also try to find a good wine to pair it with. Im trying to say that its not a question of what animal it is, its that it is an animal.

I stopped eating vegetarians, err, herbivores 20 years ago. So no (even though I did eat some during the 80s in Europe) It's just meat.

  39. Charles van Dijk

    March 6, 2013

That was the meat in Europe after world war 2 beef was too expensive. Here is a statistic. 1000.000 horses were send to fight in world war 1 only 62.000 came back. On a lighter note a soldier must be more intelligent than his horse because he is not allowed to shit whilst on parade.

  40. Randy Neufeldt

    March 6, 2013

OMG! I'd NEVER knowingly eat horse, dog or cat meat EVER! If I knew of a place that served it I'd do what I could to bring it to the attention of authorities and shut them down.

Frankly speaking I like them galloping ithroughout the paddock. People who are interested in them usually want to make money out of livestock. Capitalism had it's origin of the ownership of livestock by counting the heads or capitulum.

I bet everybody that said no has never been hungry if I was hungry I would

  46. Charles van Dijk

    March 7, 2013

+david leadbetter Never experienced a European winter in the fifties. The economic miracle hasn't taken place yet. I can remember buying only 1 egg for mum because they were so expensive!. It was pickled cabbage as vegetable as fresh vegetables were out of season. Horse meat was a cheap substitute for beef. The smoked horse sausage was particular popular. I respect vegetarians and my present diet has been influenced by some of their arguments. Also I'm disgusted by some of the practises in abattoirs. For the vegetarians, don't buy a dog because dog food may very well contain horse meat.

Horses are to kind and verry faithful to there owner. A loyal companian such like your dog. There is no,way I could eat or even taste of a horse. Ive owned several and they are to nice of a creatcher to eat. Its a shame to see slotter houses for horses to be turned into dog food. Would you eat dog food? Think if it in that perspective and you will think twice before trying. Such a beautiful picture thanks for sharing

Live & Die for Buddhism

Me & Grandma

My Reflection

This site is a tribute to Buddhism. Buddhism has given me a tremendous inspiration to be who and where I am today. Although I came to America at a very young age, however, I never once forget who I am and where I came from. One thing I know for sure is I was born as a Buddhist, live as a Buddhist and will leave this earth as a Buddhist. I do not believe in superstition. I only believe in karma.

Tipitaka: The pali canon (Readings in Theravada Buddhism). A vast body of literature in English translation the texts add up to several thousand printed pages. Most -- but not all -- of the Canon has already been published in English over the years. Although only a small fraction of these texts are available here at Access to Insight, this collection can nonetheless be a very good place to start.
