I understand that the workers strike was asking for Monthly wages in textiles/clothes industry to be $160 which is an incredibly low wage.

I wonder if western countries only bought clothes from companies that paid a living wage, how quickly conditions would improve for Cambodians.

+John Said It's related to garment workers who were killed and injured during the crackdown on January 3rd. They want Walmart and H & M to take responsibility. About two weeks ago, these companies wrote a joint letter requesting Cambodian government to investigate the crackdown.

+John Said factories would open again in the west, as shipping cost would be prohibitive.

+John Said A girl in yellow shirt at 0:21 attempted to commit suicide [took pills] weeks ago, but she didn't die. Doctor was able to save her life.

the shirt i am wearing cost $10   from that price probably less than 10 cents went to the laborer. If we could buy clothes from Cambodia with a guarantee that the worker was given 5% of sale price it would be a massive improvement for their lives.

+John Said lookup monetary system you'll will find the 21 businesses that are run by the monetary system Walmart is one of these systems. When you find out how corrupt the monetary system is. you'll have your answer. Believe it or not it deals with only 700 people these people are all related family wise. Be wise and careful my friends these people will stop at nothing. Wherever there is corruption fighting killing you will find the monetary system the trick is finding out what they want. I'll give you one hint the word is ( control)

+Timothy Mckiness  true. the system is established to maintain and increase the control of the few super-wealthy.

If they lost some of their wealth their lives would be no different. It must feel like suffering to them i guess – eg to have 40 billion dollars then to have only 38 billion dollars. This level of wealth the numbers become meaningless.

I must add that one of my heroes is Bill Gates in my opinion he is genuinely using his wealth to help people. So there is hope 🙂

The majority of the people in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Singapore are much better off economically than those in many other nations in East Asia.  Why is that so?  What is the big difference between the governments?

That's an interesting question +Chorum Ventus . I could say that the places mentioned are functioning democracies. North Korea, Thailand, Cambodia etc would be easy to argue they are not truly democratic

Live & Die for Buddhism

Me & Grandma

My Reflection

This site is a tribute to Buddhism. Buddhism has given me a tremendous inspiration to be who and where I am today. Although I came to America at a very young age, however, I never once forget who I am and where I came from. One thing I know for sure is I was born as a Buddhist, live as a Buddhist and will leave this earth as a Buddhist. I do not believe in superstition. I only believe in karma.

Tipitaka: The pali canon (Readings in Theravada Buddhism). A vast body of literature in English translation the texts add up to several thousand printed pages. Most -- but not all -- of the Canon has already been published in English over the years. Although only a small fraction of these texts are available here at Access to Insight, this collection can nonetheless be a very good place to start.
