Mother Embraces Daughter's Killer in Court

A Heart-touching story on forgivesness…
A devastated mother embraced her daughter's killer in court this week, a moment of forgiveness amid personal anguish.

Jordyn Howe pleaded guilty in court Tuesday for the 2012 shooting death of his friend, Lourdes “Jina” Guzman-DeJesus, 13. Howe had brought his stepfather’s gun on the school bus, firing it once at the ground.

Nothing happened.

He pointed the weapon at Guzman-DeJesus — and this time, when he pulled the trigger, the gun fired, killing her. Video and full story

Forgiveness at its best. The Mother with Golden Heart realised that her teen age daughter was killed accidentally, not intentionally and the accused pleaded guilty. So, by forgiving her daughter's accidental killer she freed herself from the anguish she was carrying since 2012. And by embracing the killer in her arms, she demonstrated the courage that raised her one level above.

Your arms were always open when I needed a hug.
Your heart understood when I needed a friend
Your gentle eyes were stern when I needed a lesson
Your strength and love has guided me and gave me wings to fly

My Reflection

This site is a tribute to Buddhism. Buddhism has given me a tremendous inspiration to be who and where I am today. Although I came to America at a very young age, however, I never once forget who I am and where I came from. One thing I know for sure is I was born as a Buddhist, live as a Buddhist and will leave this earth as a Buddhist. I do not believe in superstition. I only believe in karma.

Most -- but not all -- of the Canon has already been published in English over the years. Although only a small fraction of these texts are available here at Access to Insight, this collection can nonetheless be a very good place to start.
