My poor country, Cambodia

"Public transport infrastructure in Cambodia
remains antiquated" ~School of Vice
The smallest and arguably weakest nations have transportation systems that are either on par with, or just above the quality expected and seen in Sub-Saharan Africa. It is illustrative of this point that the most remarkable transport-related event to occur in Cambodia recently was the revival of public transportation in Phnom Penh…read more

+Jendhamuni Sos Although the splendor of the ancient temples at Angkor Way leave us only a glimpse of a once thriving center of human civilization, these are truly the substance of humanitarian endeavor on the very highest plateau. Art and architecture of this order are always a tribute to the best and brightest comets once arcing across the starlight night of human history.
Time will heal the ravages of an unjust war devastating your proud people and country. Just as your perfect symmetry would grace the canvas of any master painter, your nation will rise from the ashes to reclaim its rightful place as a jewel on this earth.

This is really sad to see . But a nation cannot be really that poor … It's politicians who make it poorer …

+lak Bopha Agreed!  I've ridden in share-taxis twice in Cambodia.  Once in a van like this (minus the chickens), and another time in a Camry.  They really pack the people and cargo in tightly.

The Camry, for example, had two guys in the driver's seat — one sitting on top of the other.  They would work together to operate the gas, brake, and steering. Then there was a lady seated on the pillion, another lady and myself on the passenger side, and 6 people (a family plus grandmother) in the back seat.  We made it from Memut to Phnom Penh safely, but it's a definitely a risky mode of travel!

I don't know which type of government is there whether it is communist, socialist, republican or capitalist whatever it may be but people need a revolution to form an effective government for development and welfare of country and themselves.

The extreme poverty that exists in so many nations, is a direct result of the traditions of corruption that exist in those countries.

Agree 100%. Lived here and married for many years. This country has flogged over 75% of it's rainforest! Come on … Nobody wants to do anything ..  because ..? Answers on a sensible economic postcard please.

Come to Cambodia and see the truth. Nice people, good climate, fantastic tourist attractions, great exchange rates and a struggling youth that wants a future strangled by a backward, bullying and antiquated government.

You need to ask these questions to "strongman" Hun Sen. Officially, when he was 33, he was the richest Prime Minister in the world! Nice one Mr Sen. He sells Ankor Wat to the Vietnamese, he sells Rabbit Island, Diamond Island, the National Park, the road outside Naga World; he would sell his own mother if the price was right.

Whoever gets the "rights" to his autobiography will make a fortune in book & film contracts. It will make the film "The Devil's Double "look like "Alice in Wonderland".

Call me crazy, but I would love to establish an artist's colony and healthcare facility in Cambodia. In fact, this is one of my primary destinations. My research would also greatly benefit the healthcare system currently existing there. If anybody would like to participate in this humanitarian endeavor, or is interested, do not hesitate to contact me. After what my country did to destabilize Cambodia, I would be honored to help restore their proud traditions, and modernize healthcare.

Live & Die for Buddhism

Me & Grandma

My Reflection

This site is a tribute to Buddhism. Buddhism has given me a tremendous inspiration to be who and where I am today. Although I came to America at a very young age, however, I never once forget who I am and where I came from. One thing I know for sure is I was born as a Buddhist, live as a Buddhist and will leave this earth as a Buddhist. I do not believe in superstition. I only believe in karma.

Tipitaka: The pali canon (Readings in Theravada Buddhism). A vast body of literature in English translation the texts add up to several thousand printed pages. Most -- but not all -- of the Canon has already been published in English over the years. Although only a small fraction of these texts are available here at Access to Insight, this collection can nonetheless be a very good place to start.
