Never ask anyone to respect You

Do not go around, asking people to show you respect. Respect does not work that way. Asking people to show you respect is like forcing them to do what they don't want to do. There are times, when you are coping with rude people who refuse to show respect to everyone in general, not just you. But there are times also, when people refuse to show you respect because they do not feel like you deserve it. Either circumstance, just move on and live with it, rather than forcing someone to go against his/her will. ~Jendhamuni

+SonaamR Rana Please feel free to disagree all you want. The truth is the truth. Salt is salt – it's salty; sugar is sugar, it's sweet. Even if you say sugar is salty and salt is sweet, the truth will remain the same.

One of the rudest, most manipulative, jealous, and selfish persons that I have ever had the misfortune of crossing paths with once told me in a hysterical tirade that I "needed to respect" them.
It was hard not to laugh in their face, considering so much of what they had done and said was so unworthy of respect…

I wanted to (but didn't) respond by telling them, "Not only do I not need to respect you… after all of your behavior I've observed-  I simply just can't…"

It is something like barter system for exchange of products and in the same way like give and take policy. Respect comes whern u respect other and the same will be reciprocated. If it is not done and then it is said they are not human beings. Nice post sos.

Respect is not earned, it's given as we expect respect. Avoid the negatives, the haters but these deserve the respect, for I am not here to judge that is for my lord!

Respect is like giving a gift. You give someone respect & that someone respects you back; however it does not work like tht all the time. As Jendhamuni mentioned, our world is filled with apathetic, ignorant, rude people.
What do I do? I treat them with smile & kindness, if that doesn't work, I don't give up, I keep trying. Then, one day you see the change. They smile back at you. You know in your heart you've done something good. You changed someone. Respect is earned, you cannot ask for it, demand it, certainly cannot buy it. It is EARNED!
Thank you, Jendhamuni for your inspiring words everyday. You have my respect!
    Blessings and Peace to you

people always move with there own thoughts ,its only in our hands that to show how peaceful is the faithful way of the life & how it is profitable to them for a prolong period of the life, instead of short cut.

Respect yourself and it will flow out. Let all be a expression from within. Then you may be Impressed by the results…. not the other way around.

    FORCED RESPECT isn't worth anything!
Respect must come from one's heart and free mind, then it will lead to peace.

One should command respect and not demand. To command respect one should have the requisite qualities.

My Reflection

This site is a tribute to Buddhism. Buddhism has given me a tremendous inspiration to be who and where I am today. Although I came to America at a very young age, however, I never once forget who I am and where I came from. One thing I know for sure is I was born as a Buddhist, live as a Buddhist and will leave this earth as a Buddhist. I do not believe in superstition. I only believe in karma.

Tipitaka: The pali canon (Readings in Theravada Buddhism). A vast body of literature in English translation the texts add up to several thousand printed pages. Most -- but not all -- of the Canon has already been published in English over the years. Although only a small fraction of these texts are available here at Access to Insight, this collection can nonetheless be a very good place to start.
