I see religion as a political system of the past. It's function to protect the culture it finds itself embedded with.

That is a significant and desired outcome of religion however the prime mover is to acknowledge and worship God – and all these truly worthy principles must then evolve.

Wouldn't it just be swell if that's how it worked. Ask yourself why people have to make up stories about nonexistent beings and events to claim it all as an excuse to be so fantastic, privileged and righteous and yet most commonly in actuality to use it as an excuse to punish, marginalize, disenfranchise, segregate, manipulate, control and murder. That's the sad and infuriating common reality of religion.

It's true what he says, H.H. Dalai Lama.
But I think that the problem of religion is the interpretations. Century after century.

The purpose of religion is to control the masses , to make you feel guilty about everything you do . To make you believe in a lie that is told over and over in different languages that doesn't make any sense . To make you believe that someone out there that has never shown real proof that it exists an seems to go out of its way to give way to much evidence that it doesn't exist .

Religion is about control and nothing else .

You are almost there jusin1. Religion was introduced to separate people from the true God by making them follow a set of rules in the attempt of pleasing a god they do not really know. I can tell you that no one can please the real God by actions. So no matter what you do you will always feel guilty and short of the glory of God. If you doubt that God exists just take a look at your body with all its mysteries that cannot be resolved up to date. Take a good look at the universe being so infinite and yet so fine tuned. Do you really believe that all this came by accident?

Read up on the Black Swan Theory and see why I don't believe god exist at all.  Also god is a convient cop-out to everything people dont understand.  Not only that majority of the bible is not scientifically substaintiaed anymore .

The flood – 100% total joke of an idea just research how much water would of needed to fallen and why its not believable.  And that is one of the many things are just full of lies and falicys.

Buddhism +Justin l has nothing to do with believing in God.
Believing in your self and all what you connected to.
It is very much, help your self theory.
But if somebody wont's to believe in god …good for  them….
    No skin of my nose.

It would be really great if the Bible could be substantiated by science and history. We would all have no reason to doubt and need no faith. But God chose to give us partial knowledge and left the rest to our faith. Think of death which slaps you and I every day in the face. What happens if you die and find out that the Bible is right and there is a God and you are face to face with Jesus. Is there a 1% chance that this could be true? Did you ever stop to think about it? Death is the only truth we cannot deny. But wouldn't you want to live for ever?

+Nayer Kamel — that's good old Pascal's Wager. And it works fine for atheists, which is what Pascal was. If it turns out that God exists, most atheists — being kindly, moral people no different from practitioners of religion (though, let's face it, in most cases, brighter and more interesting) will be right there with Him in Heaven. In fact, what if it turns out that God doesn't care about a Faith that equates, in statistical terms, to stupidity verging on vicious and outright denial of patent reality, but instead, wants actively to save only those capable of reasoning their way calmly to the simple conclusion that He, in his myriad forms, isn't real? That would be a logical God, proud of his Creation, no? It's a rather nice thing to think about, as opposed to your weird code, which suggests folks are more "right with God" if they decerebrate themselves and either believe, or fearfully and cravenly pretend to believe, crazy stuff?

We are now discussing if God exists or not only because He said he does. He said it in the Bible. He said it in the Tewrah and even in the Quran (the islam). Each of these books present God in its own way and followers of each believe it. But what you are trying to do is create a god that suits your ideas and fulfill your purposes. It does not work this way. You either believe in God the way He announced himself or better stay as you are until a day comes when your heart and eyes will be opened to Him the true God which I believe to be Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior.

My Reflection

This site is a tribute to Buddhism. Buddhism has given me a tremendous inspiration to be who and where I am today. Although I came to America at a very young age, however, I never once forget who I am and where I came from. One thing I know for sure is I was born as a Buddhist, live as a Buddhist and will leave this earth as a Buddhist. I do not believe in superstition. I only believe in karma.

Tipitaka: The pali canon (Readings in Theravada Buddhism). A vast body of literature in English translation the texts add up to several thousand printed pages. Most -- but not all -- of the Canon has already been published in English over the years. Although only a small fraction of these texts are available here at Access to Insight, this collection can nonetheless be a very good place to start.
