Remove the landmines in our hearts

“We must remove the landmines in our hearts which prevent us from making peace. The landmines in the heart are greed, hatred and delusion. We can overcome greed with the weapon of generosity; we can overcome hatred with the weapon of loving kindness; we can overcome delusion with the weapon of wisdom. Peace-making starts with us.”

I like the analogy of landmines, too often so-called sharp practices result in indescribable harm.

Very wise words… I understand your admiration for this extraordinary man! Thank you for sharing this to us +Jendhamuni Sos … And, the real landmines are the most terrible diabolic weapons that mankind has ever invented. of course I don't say that from my own experience, since there are no landmines in our country… My knowledge is just from TV and newspapers, but I can imagine what it means for the victims… or maybe not…:(

A soldier will use landmines as long as mankind participates in war. He wants to go home. What is bad that weapon will kill innocents long after he has gone. +Rene Sidler

I think I understand what you mean +Charles van Dijk. Very often there are just innocent playing children the victims… We can just pray for peace on earth… I doubt that such worldwide peace wiil ever happen – not in this world…

+Rene Sidler Banning land mines is counter productive, a soldier will just makes his own. Peace on earth, example if the US invest their money which they spend now on their armed forces there wouldn't be a financial crisis today. Price of 1 bullet $.50 x 6000= $3000/min expenditure of 1 electronic machine gun. How many people could they feed? If they did that some third world countries wouldn't dream of declaring the US their enemies.

My Reflection

This site is a tribute to Buddhism. Buddhism has given me a tremendous inspiration to be who and where I am today. Although I came to America at a very young age, however, I never once forget who I am and where I came from. One thing I know for sure is I was born as a Buddhist, live as a Buddhist and will leave this earth as a Buddhist. I do not believe in superstition. I only believe in karma.

Tipitaka: The pali canon (Readings in Theravada Buddhism). A vast body of literature in English translation the texts add up to several thousand printed pages. Most -- but not all -- of the Canon has already been published in English over the years. Although only a small fraction of these texts are available here at Access to Insight, this collection can nonetheless be a very good place to start.
