The planet needs more peacemakers, healers

The planet does not need more ‘successful people’.
The planet desperately needs more peacemakers,
healers, restorers, storytellers and lovers of all kinds.
It needs people to live well in their places.
It needs people with moral courage willing
to join the struggle to make the world habitable
and humane and these qualities have little to do
with success as our culture is the set.

This quote is NOT from the Dalai Lama. It is a direct quote from David Orr’s essay “What is Education For?” It is commonly misattributed to the Dalai Lama, but as a college professor, I recognize that correct attribution matters. Her’s the link to Orr’s essay: https://www.context.org/iclib/ic27/orr/

One thing I know for sure is I was born as a Buddhist, live as a Buddhist and will leave this earth as a Buddhist. I do not believe in superstition. I only believe in karma.

Although only a small fraction of these texts are available here at Access to Insight, this collection can nonetheless be a very good place to start.
